Congratulations to Grangemouth for securing the Division 1 title after winning the decisive game. Attached below is the match report from Steve who is captain of Stirling A.
Stirling A 2 Grangemouth A 3
Isaac Browning 1/2 Alan Bell
Jim Shemilt 0-1 John McLay
William Spiers 1-0 David Wallace
Graham Anderson 0-1 Daniel Kitaev
Steve Smith 1/2 Alan Petrie
Grangemouth had white on 1, 4 and 5.
Stirling A needed to beat Grangemouth A this evening to prolong the
league decision to their final match.
The game between the captains on board 5 was the first to finish. Alan
had the initiative throughout and gave me some difficult problems. Once
I had set up a solid defensive wall he offered a draw, and as I couldn't
see any ideas for myself that couldn't be met by exchanging pieces or
risk blundering into a loss I accepted. Daniel played an excellent game
against Graham and built a decisive king side attack. When Jim lost on
time on board 2 in a position that was losing anyway the best we could
do was a drawn match which meant that the title of division 1 winners
was Grangemouth's.
William played very well to beat David on board 3. On board 1 Alan
offered Isaac a draw in a level position, and with there being no chance
of a Stirling match win Isaac accepted.
Grangemouth thus complete their league schedule undefeated with only a
draw against Badgers Brook preventing a 100% score. They are worthy
champions. Can they do a league and cup double?
